Chile Chile, Evening Time
October 30, 2007
October 30th, 2007
At six o’ clock this evening after crossing the International Date Line and winding the clock back some fourteen hours from that of New Zealand time, I left my newly acquired (albeit temporary) home of La Casa Roja in Santiago and went to revel in the warmth of the evening air. My second October 30th evening 2007.
I took a short stroll into the centre and watched the tarot readers and artists in the square. The heat I had almost begun to crave made all the difference. Simple acts like walking, heightened by the lack of impulsive boughts of uncontrollable shuddering.
I found a cafe and ordered some food. Soup (sopa), salad (ensalada), maybe the Spanish language barrier wasn’t going to be all that I had anticipated. After beer and a coffee I paid my bill and thanked the waiter with “arigato” on the way out. Before you persecute, consider how eleven countries may merge after being awake for a day and a half.
Welcome to time lag!!!!!!! I was shaking for 3 days on my return to Spain…….keep up the language, you will need it when you arrive here!
Loved your poem to your childhood friend. have you met again yet?
